Mobile vs Desktop

I was trying to show my grandmother how to use a new photo-sharing app on her phone yesterday, and it really struck me how much more "lost" she felt compared to when she uses her desktop. On the computer, she knows where the menus are, but on the phone, everything feels hidden or too simplified. It made me realize that it’s not just about things being smaller; the whole way we interact with the software feels fundamentally different. What do you guys think is the real secret sauce that separates a good mobile experience from a desktop one, beyond just shrinking the buttons?

I've noticed that too, especially when I’m trying to use apps while I'm out running errands. On a desktop, I have all the time in the world to explore, but on my phone, I’m usually distracted or in a hurry. I actually came across some cool thoughts on https://www.figbat.com/blog/why-mobile-entertainment-platforms-keep/ about how mobile design has to stay "quiet" and predictable because our attention is so fragmented when we're on the move. If an app feels too loud or cluttered, I just lose interest immediately. My best tip is to look for apps that use standard gestures we already know—it makes a huge difference in how natural the experience feels when you're multitasking.
